LexA regulated promoter
This is the promoter sequence for the LexA gene from escherichia coli. The lexA protein regulates its own promoter by binding to the lexA binding sites. LexA represses about 40 other SOS response genes, and the promoter of each of these genes contain a conserved lexA binding site known as the SOS box. The SOS box sequence is 'CTGT' - 8 neucleotide spacer - 'ACAG'. The SOS recA protein binds to ssDNA, becomes activated, and will then cleave lexA allowing an output PoPs signal from this promoter.
